Named after Herbert H. Lehman, the legendary New York governor, senator, and humanitarian, the College was founded in 1968 and has graduated over 50,000 men and women who have gone on to achieve distinction in business, government, the arts, social services, and many other fields.

Lehman's beautiful, tree-lined, 37-acre campus is located in a residential section of the northwest Bronx, along the historic Jerome Park Reservoir. The only public baccalaureate college in the Bronx, Lehman enrolls about 9,500 students of all ages, nationalities, and backgrounds. The College has recently added new facilities and new academic programs and currently offers more than 90 undergraduate and graduate programs.

Recently added programs include new media and other computer-related majors, health services administration, and recreation education.
Lehman's multilingual journalism program is the only program of its kind in the nation.
The new Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree is a 49-credit program that emphasizes the role of nonprofits and governmental organizations.
Inside the classroom, Lehman often feels like a small college. Undergraduate courses have an average of 18 students. Students often collaborate with faculty on research projects, especially in biology and psychology.
Lehman's tradition of one-on-one mentoring has helped to establish the College's excellent record of student acceptance to medical and graduate schools, including some of the nation's most prestigious programs. It also fosters a spirit of partnership among Lehman students, who often meet in the College Library to study together or work on group projects.
A wide range of programs support and enrich the Lehman experience, including an award-winning Freshman Year Initiative, the Weekend Advantage Program, and the Adult Degree Program for students 25 and older.
High-achieving students take advantage of programs like the CUNY Honors College at Lehman, the Lehman Scholars, the Ronald McNair Scholars, and MARC (Minority Access to Research Careers).
Graduates of a CUNY community college automatically receive up to 60 credits toward their bachelor's degree. Graduates of SUNY community colleges may also receive up to 60 credits toward their Lehman bachelor's degree. Graduates of selected programs within both CUNY and SUNY can also receive credit toward Lehman majors.
Lehman helps students make the right decisions about careers and graduate education. The Career Services Office provides career counseling, on-campus interviews, and workshops on selecting majors, r�sum� writing, and interview techniques.
Renowned faculty members include Academy Award-winning composer John Corigliano, U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins, and several notable scientists.
Athletic and recreation facilities include two full-size gymnasiums that house an indoor track, aerobic fitness and free-weight rooms, dance and aerobics studios, four racquetball courts, and one of the area's largest indoor swimming pools.
The Lehman campus is accessible from any of the five boroughs or from Westchester County. Parking is available in attended lots directly across from the campus.

Special Programs

Language Transition Program offers non-native speakers practice in all language skill areas: speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

Lehman Scholars Program BA/BS: An honors curriculum for self-directed students that offers seminars, interdisciplinary concentrations, and independent work.

Individualized Baccalaureate Programs available with separate application and interview required. Qualified students may satisfy up to 30 credits through internship, research, or work-study programs.

Internship Programs allow students to work for credit in outside agencies.

Adult Degree Program tailored to the needs of the individual adult, 25 years or older, who has family or work responsibilities.

Weekend Advantage Program: Students may take courses on Saturday and Sunday including graduate course work in education.

Facts

The New York Times has called Lehman "the most attractive of the CUNY colleges with some of the finest facilities."
The College's original gray-stone, Tudor-Gothic-style buildings were constructed in the 1930s. These structures are of enduring interest to urban planners and architects.
Lehman recently opened a new computer lab for the biological sciences that will allow undergraduates to take advantage of advanced research software.
The six centers and institutes on the Lehman campus include the Institute for Irish Studies and the Bronx Institute, whose mission is to foster faculty research.
