The Office of Academic Affairs maintains databases with information on its programs, including College Now, Middle Grades Initiative/GEAR UP, and the Early College Initiative. Data on student enrollments, demographic characteristics, schools attended, outcomes, and tutoring/advisement contact hours are used for program management and development, reporting, research, and evaluation purposes. Since so many New York City public school students enter CUNY colleges, OAA is also able, with the cooperation of the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment, to produce longitudinal research on students who have participated in its college preparatory programs, which is of interest not only to program administrators and campus officials but also to a national audience of educators and educational reformers, researchers and policymakers.
