Associate Degrees

CUNY undergraduate programs lead to two types of degrees: the associate or the bachelor's (baccalaureate). Generally, an associate degree requires approximately 60 college credits and a bachelor's degree requires 120.

Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate in Science (AS)

These programs are designed for students planning to continue their studies in a bachelor's degree program. When you earn an associate degree at a CUNY college, you can enter a senior college as a third-year student (junior) and receive full credit for all work completed in the associate program.

Associate of Applied Science (AAS)

Two-year AAS programs, offered at community colleges and some senior colleges, combine career preparation with general education courses. Most AAS programs are geared toward specific careers, such as secretarial science, accounting, or electrical technology. Students acquire the training needed to become skilled technicians on a semi-professional level and can also prepare to transfer to related baccalaureate programs.
