
CUNY undergraduate programs lead to two types of degrees: the associate or the bachelor's (baccalaureate). Generally, an associate degree requires approximately 60 college credits and a bachelor's degree requires 120.
Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS)
All CUNY senior colleges offer four-year baccalaureate degree programs. Most graduates of a baccalaureate program in humanities and the arts receive the BA degree. Graduates of baccalaureate programs in natural sciences and mathematics often earn the BS degree.
Bachelor of Architecture (BArch)
The School of Architecture at The City College of New York (CCNY) offers a five-year program leading to the Bachelor of Architecture. Students interested in this degree must first complete the four-year BS in architecture with a satisfactory grade-point average, and then apply for the fifth-year thesis program leading to the BArch degree.
Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)
The BBA degree is widely recognized as a strong credential for entering the business world at the managerial or professional level. Three CUNY colleges (Baruch, Lehman, and Queens) currently offer this degree.

Bachelor of Engineering (BE)
The City College School of Engineering, the only public university engineering program in New York City, awards the Bachelor of Engineering degree in five major areas: chemical, civil, computer, electrical, and mechanical engineering. Students in these BE degree programs receive a broad-based general education and solid professional training. All CUNY BE programs prepare students for professional practice and meet the educational requirements for the professional engineer license in New York State.
Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA)
BFA programs provide professional training in the creative and performing arts. CUNY offers BFA programs in creative writing, dance, film, music, art, and theater. Although these programs focus on artistic practice, all provide a thorough foundation in the history, theory, and literature of their respective fields.
Bachelor of Music (BMus)*
This degree, is designed for students seeking a professional career in instrumental or vocal performance.
Students in these programs receive intensive instruction in their instrument or voice, comprehensive training in music history and theory,
and a broad-based liberal arts education.
* Admission to all BMus programs requires an audition in voice or on the student's primary instrument.
Bachelor of Science in Education (BSEd)
The BSEd is a professional degree for classroom teachers recognized by the New York State Department of Education. BSEd programs include majors such as art, English, and music and prepare students to teach a particular subject on the secondary school level and earn initial certification. Students should be aware that Professional Teacher Certification in New York State requires a master's degree from an appropriate program. Some BSEd programs are offered occupational teacher education and technology teacher education.
Bachelor of Technology (BTech)
New York City College of Technology (City Tech) offers the BTech programs in a variety of fields like Communication Design, Computer Engineering Technology, Entertainment Technology, Graphic Arts Production Management & Telecommunications Technology.
