The best and brightest ASAP students were honored on October 8, 2009 at the first inaugural ASAP Transfer Award Reception. The evening's academic stars were joined in the Skylight Room at the CUNY Graduate Center by University officials and the program's benefactors from the Jewish Foundation for the Education of Women. Senior Vice Chancellor for University Relations Jay Hershenson welcomed the forty eight scholarship recipients and their families, fellow students, and ASAP staff. University ASAP Director Donna Linderman presented the ASAP Transfer Scholars with certificates of achievement recognizing the success of these promising students, who were selected based on strong records (minimum 3.0 GPA), timely graduation with an Associate's degree, and demonstrated financial need. Also in attendance was Senior University Dean for Academic Affairs and Dean of the School of Professional Studies, John Mogulescu.
The ASAP Transfer Scholarship Program rewards high-achieving 2-year graduates of CUNY's Accelerated Study in Associate Programs who have matriculated into a baccalaureate program at CUNY's most selective senior colleges: Baruch College, Brooklyn College, Hunter College, and Queens College. The scholarship covers the balance between financial aid and tuition for up to four semesters to allow students to complete a Bachelor's degree. Recipients also receive targeted advisement and mentoring during their first year of baccalaureate study.
