Applying to The Teacher Academy requires you to make a few decisions.

First, decide which major you would like to pursue. This is an important choice since it determines which subject you will be teaching in middle or high school.

Second, select where you would like to study. Consider location, cultural environment, activities, and opportunities available. On the web page and in the catalogue, each campus lists the course requirements for each major offered, and clarifies its approach to the major. Take some time to review the unique characteristics of each program. Identify a professor whose research intrigues you. Visit a few of the campuses and imagine yourself spending a number of years there. Contact the Teacher Academy or Admission offices for more information.

Teacher Academy students at the community colleges complete an associate's degree in math or science and then transfer to a partnering senior college program for completion of a bachelor's degree in math or science.

The Application

  • The Teacher Academy accepts freshman applications for admission in the fall term only.
  • Students may apply to The Teacher Academy at up to three participating CUNY campuses.
  • Students need to complete only one application for admission.
  • Applicants should complete The Teacher Academy application online.
  • The Teacher Academy does accept transfer applications. Transfer students are required to complete a minimum of two years full-time in The Teacher Academy.

Special Note

Final acceptance will be contingent upon the submission of a transcript of grades from the final year of high school.

On some campuses, students may apply to both The Teacher Academy and the Macaulay Honors College. If accepted to both programs on the same campus, students can participate in both. However, students must choose only one award package-The Teacher Academy or the Macaulay Honors College scholarship. Visit www.cuny.edu/honorscollege for more information on the Macaulay Honors College.
