The Teacher Academy

The Teacher Academy is a program at The City University of New York located on seven CUNY campuses: Brooklyn College, City College, College of Staten Island, Hunter College, Lehman College, Queens College, and York College. The purpose of The Teacher Academy is to prepare a new generation of exceptional teachers to produce high levels of student achievement and to inspire middle and high school students' interest in mathematics and science. The Teacher Academy admits exceptional students. Teacher Academy candidates meet the following criteria:

  • High overall high school average
  • High grades and Regents scores in mathematics and science courses
  • High SAT scores
  • Strong recommendations, at least one from a math or science teacher
  • Demonstrate an interest in teaching

Each student who enrolls in The Teacher Academy is eligible for:

  • Four years of tuition
  • Stipends for internships during the school year and summer
  • A full-time teaching position within the New York City Department of Education upon successful completion of The Teacher Academy program including course work, field work, and pre-employment screening

Along with the admissions application, students are required to fill out the FAFSA and New York State residents are required to complete a TAP application. In order for a student to continue to receive The Teacher Academy financial aid package throughout his or her four years of enrollment, he/she must remain in good standing as defined by The Teacher Academy.
