Dr. Avrom Caplan

Dr. Caplan earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry  from the University of London.  After performing postdoctoral studies at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he was appointed Assistant Professor at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York in 1993.  He rose through the ranks to become a tenured Associate Professor and was appointed Professor at The City College of CUNY in 2008.  He is author of over 40 papers; the most recent of which appeared in Molecular and Cellular Biology and was a recommended pick by the Faculty of 1000 (Biology), a peer-review system for important publications.  Dr. Caplan is currently the Molecular Chaperones section editor for the journal Cell Stress and Chaperones with Dr. Michael Cheetham.  He has a long history of research funding from the National Institutes of Health and has been principal investigator on three RO1 project grants in addition to being an investigator on several program grants. His current research interests are focused on quality control of cellular signaling pathways and the identification of targets for chemotherapy.  He was appointed to Associate University Dean for Research in May 2009.
