National Postdoctoral Association
The National Postdoctoral Association is a professional association that provides a unique, national voice for postdoctoral scholars. The NPA was founded in 2003, with an ambitious agenda to enhance the quality of the postdoctoral experience. Since its founding, the NPA has assumed a leadership role in addressing the many issues confronting the postdoctoral community that are national in scope, requiring action beyond the local level.
New York Academy of Sciences
Since 1817, the New York Academy of Sciences has been bringing together scientists of different disciplines from around the world. Their purpose is to advance the understanding of science, technology, and medicine, and to stimulate new ways to think about how their research is applied in society and the world. An independent, nonprofit, membership-based organization, the Academy has always relied on the generous support of its members and partnering institutions for its vitality. Today the Academy is widely recognized as one of the world's foremost organizers of scientific conferences and symposia.
The NYAS offers a reduced, student-level membership fee of $36 per year for postdocs.
The National HERC (Higher Education Recruitment Consortium)
The Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (HERC) was founded in the
spring of 2000 by colleges and universities in Northern California that
were seeking ways to collaborate on addressing faculty and staff dual
career and employment outreach challenges on their campuses.
In the spring of 2007, HERC established a national organization to help
support the mission and objectives of the regional HERCs. The mission
of the National HERC is to facilitate national strategic initiatives
that help the regional HERCs accomplish their goals and to promote
HERC-wide visibility. The mission of the regional HERCs is to advance
the efforts of their member institutions to recruit and retain
outstanding and diverse faculty and staff and to assist dual career
couples.
