Baruch College
Located in the Gramercy Park section of Manhattan and named in honor of the statesman and financier Bernard M. Baruch, Baruch College was established as a senior college in 1968. Baruch's primary mission is to educate students for effective leadership in a global, political, social and economic community, principally through business and administrative programs that are integrated with a comprehensive liberal arts education.
Ranked among the nation's most eminent business schools by leading business publications, Baruch is the only college unit in New York City with accreditation from the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business. Baruch's School of Business serves both an undergraduate and graduate population with a comprehensive range of programs. Baruch ranks among the top colleges for the number of its graduates who serve as senior executives of America's major corporations. The College's expertise in economic development benefits the community through its Executive Education programs, its Continuing Studies programs, and its Small Business Lab.
The School of Public Affairs, established in 1994, offers both undergraduate and graduate programs in a range of fields including public administration, educational administration, labor relations, public policy, and real estate and metropolitan development. All of its graduate-level public affairs programs are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration. The School is uniquely positioned for leadership in public policy education and research. The School's Steven L. Newman Real Estate Institute is a perfect example of the forward-looking divisions that help this college thrive.
The School of Liberal Arts and Sciences offers the B.A. in fourteen majors and provides a liberal arts education for all Baruch students. The Sidney Mishkin Gallery, the Jean Cocteau Repertory theater-in-residence, and the Alexander String Quartet in residence represent the College's commitment to the scope of its students' interests.
Baruch also offers its students the most modern and technologically-advanced learning environment. Its physical plant is currently undergoing a transformation. Today's students enjoy state-of-the-art facilities in the Information and Technology Center; the William and Anita Newman Library, which contains ultra-modern computerized research tools; the Media Lab; and the Baruch Computing and Technology Center. The new Academic Complex, houses research facilities and classrooms, as well as a physical fitness center, a theater and recital space, and a television studio. It is the hub of Baruch's new campus.
In tandem with improvements to facilities, Baruch is making substantial innovations in curriculum by enhancing its honors programs on the undergraduate level with a new Honors Institute, and on the graduate level with such initiatives as The Jack Nash Honors M.B.A. Program. In addition, the new Bernard L. Schwartz Communication Institute will offer innovative programs in communication-across-the-curriculum.
